About this presentation
This presentation introduces how drones can support livestock herd monitoring, using the ICAERUS project and French pilot work as the main example. In France, the project explores whether drones can improve working conditions for livestock farmers monitoring animals at pasture. Only 8% of surveyed livestock farmers already use drones, while 19% are considering them. Tests on pilot farms compare conventional pasture rounds with drone-assisted monitoring, measuring time, energy use, labour impact, and farmer experience. Early results show working-time reductions of 12% in autumn and 38% in spring, though outcomes vary by farm context and daily conditions.
